For bring pride and honor to the Philippines, skateboarding champion Margielyn Didal has been given the privilege to carry and wave the Philippine flag in the closing rites of Asian Games 2018.
After Fil-Am NBA player Jordan Clarkson led the country as the flag bearer at the opening ceremony of Asian Games 2018, Philippine Olympic Committee president Ricky Vargas confirmed that Didal will be the PH flag bearer on Sunday, September 2.
KAMI learned from Rappler that according to her coach, Daniel Baustista, “She borrowed our boards, our friend’s boards, and then in a few months, she became better than all the boys. And now she’s the best in the world. That’s so crazy. That’s the best story ever,”
It has also been reported that Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña will build a skateboarding park due to the awareness Didal made on skateboarding at the streets and being chased by police.
“Because the awareness raised by people like you, Cebu City will be building a skate park in the SRP. My sister is personally donating P5M to your cause,” said Mayor Tomas.
Margielyn Didal is a 19-year-old skater from the city of Cebu. Her father is a construction worker and her mother is a street food vendor near Concave Skate Park. This is where Didal has learned skateboarding to be her passion.
In a previous post by KAMI, Didal won the 4th gold medal of the Philippines from acing the women’s skateboarding street event yesterday, Wednesday.
