The best-selling author behind hit film “Crazy Rich Asians”, Kevin Kwan, is now wanted in Singapore. The Singapore Government has issued a statement about the author’s failed registration to his National Service.
According to Singapore Government, Kevin Kwan did not respond to the letters and notices they have sent to his overseas address. The author also left the country without valid exit permit.
In 1994, Kevin has been rejected to renounce his Singapore citizenship without the National Service. In accordance with Enlistment Act, he has committed offenses and is now liable to a fine S$10,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 3 years upon conviction.
Every man in Singapore is required to serve in the army, police, or civil defense after they reach the age of 18.
Kevin Kwan did not also attend the Singapore premiere of Crazy Rich Asians last August 21, 2018.
