The Sumilao farmers and other farmer associations endorsed the candidacy of Mar Roxas and Leni Robredo. The farmers said that Robredo helped them secure their agricultural lands when the vice presidential candidate served as their lawyer.
The Sumilao farmers reached the capital of the country once again after marching for 19 days, armed with nothing but a hope that the person who once helped them reclaim their lands will soon be elected as the next Vice President of the Philippines.
The Sumilao farmers and Leni go way back; years ago, when the farmers were fighting for ownership over their ancestral land, Robredo supported their plight and defended them as a volunteer lawyer. They have now won back their land and are grateful for the Robredos’ help in the struggle.
The farmers began the caravan on April 15 in Sumilao, Bukidnon. They seek to travel over 3,700 km, using trucks and ferries across the Philippines.
Will their march inspire enough votes to elect Leni?
