Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa disclosed on her Instagram account that she suffered depression four years ago.

The beauty queen revealed that she “survived in silence” and that only her family knew about her condition.

KAMI learned that Kylie’s confession is to raise advocacy about mental health.

“This is very personal to me. This is for everyone who’s suffered from depression, mood disorders, anxiety, bipolar disorder or any form of mental illness,” Kylie explained. “You are not alone.”

She also dared other victims of depression to be honest about how they feel.

“Being honest about how you feel doesn’t make us weak, it makes us human,” she said.

The beauty queen, however, admitted that she insisted to speak about her condition even if she was discouraged to do so.

“When given the opportunity to speak about it, I took it, even when I was discouraged and told to focus on more visible and popular advocacies,” she confessed.

Kylie ended her post with a message to her fellow survivors and to those who are still suffering from the mental illness.

“Get help. Speak to someone. Let’s speak up more about mental health, before it’s too late,” she challenged.

In a previous article by KAMI, it was mentioned that Kylie has a “passion” in helping depressed individuals and bringing suicide awareness. She even volunteered for the Natasha Goulbourn Foundation which advocates educating people about suicide and depression.

Kylie is a 26-year-old Filipino model, actress, and a beauty queen who was crowned Binibining Pilipinas International 2016 and brought home the 6th crown for the Philippines in Miss International.
