- Many lawmakers have signed the manifesto of support to endorse Rep. Gloria Arroyo as Speaker of the House
- Her endorsement didn't push through because the session was adjourned, but representatives went back early afternoon and elected Rep. Arroyo as new House Speaker where she took oath
- Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez refused to step down as House Speaker
It would seem that division is brewing among the people's representatives. Two solons are apparently desiring to embrace the House Speakership.
KAMI learned that majority of the congressmen have signed the manifesto of support that endorsed former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as House Speaker.
However, Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, now ex- House Speaker reportedly refused to vacate his position when rumors circulated about a plan to oust him from the highest position in Congress.
According to a report in Rappler, the oust and the oath-taking of Rep. Gloria Arroyo as the new House Speaker happened in one swift move.
Former allies, with the help of Sara Duterte, have turned the table against Alvarez.
That morning, true allies of Alvarez adjourned the session, which was why the Bangsamoro Organic Law was not ratified.
After the adjournment however, early afternoon, members of the House returned to the session hall, this time, they passed around the manifesto which called for the removal of Alvarez as speaker.
There, they were able to successfully get Arroyo to take her oath as the new speaker.
In the meantime, Rep. Alvarez welcomed Pres. Duterte when he arrived at the Batasang Pambansa.
This feud between the two representatives was the culprit behind the delayed SONA of Pres. Duterte.
Said circumstances might be the first in Philippine history.
