Senator Manny Pacquiao’s fight with Argentinian boxer Lucas Matthysse showed the world that the Filipino legend still has what it takes to win impressively and convincingly, as reported earlier by KAMI.
So what’s next for the nearly 40-year-old fighting senator?
KAMI presents to you a list of six elite fighters who might challenge Pacquiao next.
1. Terence Crawford
The American boxer is considered as the third best active fighter in the world by The Ring magazine. He is currently the WBO Welterweight title.
As he is handled by Bob Arum, it is not possible that the promoter would pit him against the aging Pacquiao in order to turn him from a boxing star into a household name worldwide.
2. Vasyl Lomachenko
Just above Crawford, the Ukrainian fighter is considered as the second best active boxer in the world by The Ring. He currently holds the WBA Lightweight title after beating the former lightweight king, Jorge Linares.
His promoter Arum is also open to the possibility of a Lomachenko-Pacquiao fight, but the Pinoy boxer might have to drop down from 147 lbs to 135 lbs in order to make the match happen.
3. Mikey Garcia
The fifth best active boxer, according to The Ring, could fight Pacquiao in either the 140 lb-limit or 135. The difficulty lies in the fact that Garcia had a conflict before with promoter Bob Arum and that the purse for the fight might not be worth the risk.
4. Amir Khan
The British boxer’s boxing career has waned in recent years. However, his name is still popular and could bring big bucks for the fighting senator. Additionally, Pacquiao would be the favorite in this fight, unlike in his potential bouts with the three fighters above.
5. Jeff Horn
A rematch with Horn would be all about revenge for Pacquiao, since the Australian already lost his belt and undefeated record to Terence Crawford. However, it might not be a good idea to avenge the loss since most people believe that Pacquiao won the first fight anyway.
6. Floyd Mayweather
The best boxer of his generation retired at the top – undefeated, healthy and wealthy. However, his supposed legal problems, tax issues and luxurious lifestyle might force him to go back to the ring one more time. There is no bigger fight for him than a rematch with Pacquiao.
