There were many who doubted that Manny Pacquiao could win impressively against an accomplished boxer like Lucas Matthyse due to being 39 years old and an active Senator as well.
KAMI learned that the boxing legend has proven them wrong.
According to CBS Sports, the Filipino icon defeated Argentinian ex-champion Lucas Matthysse with a 7th round TKO to capture the WBA Welterweight Championship in their fight in Malaysia today.
In a dominant performance, Pacquiao won every round of the fight, dropping his opponent three times – in the 3rd round, 5th round and the 7th round.
When referee Kenny Bayless saw that Matthysse spit out his mouthguard after the third knockdown, the veteran official stopped the fight, giving Pacquiao his first knockout victory in nine years.
The Pinoy legend now has a boxing record of 60 wins, 7 losses, and 2 draws, with 39 wins coming by way of knockout.
He is the only boxer to ever become an eight-division world title.
Some of the legends he has beaten include Oscar dela Hoya, Erik Morales, Marcos Antonio Barrera, and Juan Manuel Marquez.
Pacquiao became a Senator of the Philippines in 2016.
