Alan Peter Cayetano, the vice-presidential candidate and running mate of presidential aspirant Rodrigo Duterte, successfully secured a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the airing of an anti-Duterte political advertisement.
The TRO was issued by the Taguig Regional Trial court on Friday afternoon. The said TV ad aired on ABS-CBN for 30 seconds on Thursday night. The 30-second ad showed clips of Duterte in a bad light, cursing and uttering the controversial rape remark. The video also featured children criticizing Duterte for his crude behavior.
The said commercial was paid for Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, who accused Duterte of amassing ill-gotten wealth and malversation of public funds.
According to a report by Rappler, Cayetano filed a petition for preliminary injunction against ABS-CBN Corporation and its top executives before the Regional Trial Court of Taguig City. The respondents are ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III, Augusto Almeda-Lopez, Carlo L. Katigbak, Socorro Vidanes, and August Benitez.
Cayetano earlier expressed that various media attacks against the tough-talking mayor of Davao will continue until the May 9 polls. This is because of Duterte’s consistent high ratings and lead in surveys.
The restraining order is valid for 72 hours. Airing of other advertisements of similar nature is also covered by the TRO.
