[Update] Mar Roxas reportedly gave Sen.Grace Poe a call to meet with him for unity against what he called a "looming dictatorship."
Liberal Party camp announced earlier today that standard bearer Roxas called fellow candidate Poe to unite against Duterte. "Grace, mag-usap tayo. I will adjust schedules to your convenience. Sabihin mo lang kung saan at darating ako," Roxas said.
"Let's talk. This is for unity, our country and this is for our future," Roxas added.
This talk for unity was due to Duterte's lead in poll surveys amidst scandals and allegations of hidden wealth. For many months, Duterte's detractors criticized the Davao City Mayor on his views on extrajudicial killings, controversial remarks on rape and women, and his sympathy for the leftist group.
Roxas also want to gain the confidence of undecided voters to halt Duterte's looming dictatorship.
Meanwhile, Poe reportedly declined meeting with Roxas and his call for unity. Presidential Communications Undersecretary Manuel Quezon III tweeted, "Grace Poe says NO to calls for unity vs dictatorship".
This sparked rumors that Roxas asked Poe to back down from the presidential race. The two are statistically tie in surveys placing second and third in different mock polls.
Roxas was supposed to run in 2010 elections, but chose to give way to current president Benigno Aquino III whose campaign soared by the passing of his mother and EDSA icon Cory Aquino.
