- 9 players of Gilas Pilipinas ejected after they were involved in the brawl with Australia during FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers
- Only three players of the Gilas Pilipinas are currently allowed to play
- 17 players will serve as substitutes if the current nine players are banned
The brawl between Gilas Pilipinas and Australia that happened last July 2, 2018, at the Philippine Arena led to the ejection of the nine current players of the Philippine team. Due to the fight that the two teams got involved, there is a possibility that FIBA may ban the Gilas players which will leave the team three players. There are 17 possible PBA players that can play for the team.
The 17 substitute players will form the new Gilas team which is scheduled to play on the court this September for FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers’ second round.
The three current players of Gilas Pilipinas are June Mar Fajardo, Baser Amer, and Gabe Norwood. Other players who may join the team are Marcio Lassiter, LA Tenorio, and Paul Lee who were former Gilas players.
Christian Standhardinger may also join the team as a naturalized player. Former Gilas players’ Ray Parks Jr., Ranidel de Ocampo, Jarred Dillinger, Matt Ganuelas-Ross, and Mac Belo may join the Philippine’s national team.
Even players of Gilas cadets namely Kobe Paras, Troy Rike, and Abu Tratter may play during the second round. Mike Tolomia, Greg Slaughter, Norbert Torres, Raymond Almazan, and Kevin Ferrer are also chosen to complete the 17 player line-up.
