- The new emergency hotline number in the Philippines today is 911
- Pres. Rodrigo Duterte has already institutionalized the said number
- It is now easier to remember and it just like the worldwide emergency number
Viewed as among the good things that the president has done, the institutionalization of 911 as the emergendy hotline nationwide can be conidered a milestone.
KAMI learned that the President has signed Executive Order No. 56 last May 25 which makes the three-number combination as teh nationwide emergency hotline.
According to Inquirer, 911 will be replacing PATROL 117 as the emergency hotline.
"There is a need to change PATROL 117 Hotline Network to Emergency 911 Hotline Number to conform with international standards on emergency numbers for public telecommunication networks," said Duterte.
The order of the President stated that Emergency 911 would be placed at the Emergency 911 National Hotline Public Safety Answering Center (National Call Center) but it will be under the direction and control of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Primary responders for emergency calls under this system would be the Philippine National Police and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
The report also stated that other responders would include the Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Health, Department of Transportation, Armed Forces of the Philippines, National Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Immigration, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, LGUs, and other non-government organizations, hospitals, and medical institutions.
