Suzette Doctolero, the headwriter and creative consultant at GMA-7, lambasted the writers of the Kapamilya fantaserye “Bagani” for the show’s alleged incorrect portrayal of the babaylan.

KAMI learned that Suzette believes that the babaylans are being disrespected and that the children who watch the show are being misinformed.

She expressed her dismay during an interview with PEP.ph.

The writers of “Bagani” include Enrique Villasis, Akeem Del Rosario, at Mae Rose Balanay.

“To be fair, maganda ang direction. They have capable and talented actors/stars. Dimples is a good actress. I know I’m not supposed to critique yung trabaho ng kapwa writer, so forgive me.

"Pero as a Filipino, I really find it revolting and inappropriate the way this idiotic writer depicts the babaylans… Magbasa siya ng libro!

“Bata ang target audience. Pag ignorante ang palabas, lalo at may kinalaman sa ating mga epiko, kultura at kasaysayan, ano ang epekto nito sa bata? Iisipin nila... mga baliw ang babaylan?

“Writers, lalo na yung magtatangka to write something about our history o culture, dapat armasado ng research. Malaking responsabilidad ito.

“Kung hindi siya seryoso, dapat mag-stick siya sa pagsusulat ng comedy lang o drama oporn. Mas bagay siya doon.”

Suzette also took to Facebook to give a description of what a babaylan is.

“Bagani” stars Liza Soberano, Enrique Gil and Makisig Morales.

Some of the shows written by Suzette include “Encantadia,” “Amaya” and “My Husband’s Lover.”

She is currently a creative consultant for the hit Kapuso show “Kambal, Karibal.”
