- Sen. Manny Pacquiao erroneously stated the title of PH's national anthem
- He said it is "Bayang Magiliw" instead of "Lupang Hinirang"
- The senator said this as he was answering questions about how he could help instill patriotism of Filipinos
Senator Manny Pacquiao has been bashed a lot of times and still was able to rise up above the ashes.
KAMI saw a report on Bandera that during an interview, the senator mistakenly called the Philippine National Anthem as "Bayang Magiliw" instead of "Lupang Hinirang."
This mistake may be quite common with small elementary students, but it has become quite normal with adults.
The interview was supposedly abut how the senator plans to push for bills which could intensify the sense of patriotism of many Filipinos.
“May naisip nga ako, gusto kong magpanukala, mag-file dito sa Senate ng bill na ibalik ‘yung patriotism natin sa school. Kasi, nawala na, eh. Karamihan sa atin, Pilipino magtraydor sa kanyang kapwa at magtraydor sa kanyang bansa. So, we should teach that, ‘yung patriotism na mayroon tayong loyalty sa ating bansa.
“Kaya nga minsan, pag kumakanta ako ng ‘Bayang Magiliw’, naiiyak ako because mahal natin ang bansa natin dahil dito tayo, anuman ang mangyari, wala tayong ibang pupuntahan kungdi dito rin," said the senator.
With an epic fail interview, netizens immediately slammed the senator.
Some asked how Pacquiao can be a patriot when he does not even know the title of the national anthem.
Others commented that the senator does not really know what he's saying, considering that he cannot even
"Kayo naman, masyadong mapagpuna. Parang Mayong Bulkan lang yan ni Mocha. In other words, ‘slip of the brain,’" said another comment.
“Ay grabe siya oh! Naiiyak ako kasi Bayang Magiliw ang alam mong National Anthem. Pakantahin kaya natin siya ng Bayang Magiliw, kabisado kaya niya ang buong lyrics?” said another.
Of course, there was also one who defended Pacman.
“Perfect kasi kayo, di ba? Ang tatalino n’yo, e! Kahit naman tayo, minsan nagkakamali rin sa Bayang Magiliw. Hindi naman ibig sabihin, nagkamali sa title wala nang alam!”
Senator Manny Pacquiao is a world boxing champion who entered politics.
