- Kiana Valenciano and other Filipino models were unceremoniously pulled out of the L.A. Fashion Week Show
- They were invited to the event but when they were already there, they were just informed they could not walk the runway
- It was alleged that the policy was, "No Filipinos on the runway"
Seven Filipina models, including daughter of Gary V., Kiana Valenciano, were unceremoniously pulled out of the L.A. Fashion Week and were not allowed to walk on the runway during the fashion event.
KAMI saw on PEP that the seven models were asked to leave the event by Art Hearts Fashion's staff, the organizer of said event.
It was alleged that the president of Art Hearts Fashion, Erik Rosete, was the one who did not want Filipina models in the show.
An unnamed source also alleged that the discriminatory directive was, "No Filipinos on the runway."
Jacob Meir, owner of For the Stars Fashion House, the distributor of the creations of Gathercole, Madi and Lagare in the United States withdrew his particiapation.
Two Filipino designers also skipped the said event.
According to Gathercole, "We actually don't tolerate this kind of thing na i-discriminate 'yong mga Filipina.
"Nag-back out talaga kami. It's not fair sa mga tao, like sa mga kapwa ko Pilipino."
Kiana opted to stay strong despite what happened and gave her fellow models words of encouragement.
Her mom, Angeli Valenciano, expressed her dismay over the incident.
"So Kiana wasnt allowed by the organizers of the Opening Night of #LAFashionWeek to walk the ramp even if she was a special guest of Jacob Meir, owner of @forthestarsfashionhouse in Melrose. I post this photo (taken in the hall of ABSCBN) and you can call me a stage mom. But I am a mother and I am Filipina. And I am hurt. It was heartbreaking for me (as Kiana was excited) ...but moreso for the 6 other Filipinas who were there at the Macarthur already. Seeing makeup artist Cherry Ordoñez cry as she relayed how shabbily former Miss Earth Jamie Herrell was treated and how humiliated the five Filipina models were after being rejected with an announcement “No Filipinas will walk” saddened and angered me. Was it a height issue? Then explain it kindly. We flew thousands of miles to participate in the fundraiser because Jacob and his partner Filipina Mildred Deang personally called us. We were hesitant as she had schedules but we moved them for the event. Thank you Jacob, Rocky, Elie and Resty. You are brave warriors for a great cause. You stood your ground for the 7 Filipinas and one happened to be Gary’s and my daughter. It must have been so difficult for you to be firm with your decision not to participate in the fashion show which was totally your show but you stood by the girls. She may not have made the cut in their eyes but your decision blessed our family tremendously. Kiana is our “baby” and this was below-the-belt painful. You will forever have the gratitude and friendship of the Valenciano family. #kiana #kianavalenciano #thevalencianos #notohate #notoracism #spreadlove #lafashionweek"
Many are still waiting for a statement from the event organizer so as to give light whether the "no Filipinos" policy was indeed imposed.
The L.A. Fashion Week is one of the most sought after fashion events as it is graced by many well-known and rising designers.
