- Enrique Gil shared his life story on the Magandang Buhay show
- He said he had to stop going to school to earn a living for their family
- His father died when he was 16 years old
Enrique Gil revealed that he was reluctant to join showbiz at first.
At his guesting on morning talk show Magandang Buhay on March 2, Quen told the story of what happened after his dad died.
The actor was on his first year in college when his father succumbed to cancer in 2008.
Because of this, Quen had to step up and help his mother earn money for their family.
He had to drop out of school, too. But it was an idea that didn't sit well with Quen at first.
"Why do I have to stop going to school? Yung kuya ko nag-aaral, 'di ba dapat si kuya muna?'" he remembered asking back then.
He explained that, as the second child, he was used to having his elder brother do everything first.
"Kasi growing up I was used to... kahit tuturuan kami sino magmaneho, laging si kuya e," said Quen.
"Siguro nabigla lang po ako noon," he added.
But eventually, he put the interests of his family first and decided to drop out of school to help his mother.
"You can't complain. Siyempre, my mom needed help. We weren't really that well off before," said Quen.
He got an offer to do commercial modeling, but he had doubts at first.
"I really didn't want to do showbiz in the first place at that point. It wasn't me. Ayoko po talaga," said Quen.
Eventually, though, he agreed. And from commercial modeling in the summer of 2008, he is now one of the biggest young stars of his generation.
He was launched as part of Star Magic Circle Batch 16.
His first television role was in the action-drama series Pieta. After that he co-starred in several TV shows and movies.
His first big break was playing Michael Miranda (originally played by Diether Ocampo) in the 2011 remake of Mula Sa Puso.
He also starred alongside Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla in the 2012 hit drama Princess and I.
His biggest break was being paired with Liza Soberano in the phenomenal hit Forevermore in 2014.
The LizQuen pairing proved to be so successful, producing blockbuster movies and hit teleseryes.
The pair also admitted that they are in love with each other, although their relationship remains unlabeled.
