- An elderly house helper in Quezon City was rescued recently
- 65-year-old Lilia Macabasag was allegedly abused and locked up by her employers
- She was already rescued last February 23, Friday
A 65-year-old elderly house helper was rescued by the authorities last February 23, Friday, in Congressional Village, Quezon City.
According to ABS-CBN, Lilia Macabasag was allegedly abused and locked up by her employers.
When Lilia was rescued, she was begging the officers from Barangay Bahay Toro that she doesn't want to return to her employers anymore.
According to Lilia, she endured their abuse for 4 years, "Tanga ba ako? Ayoko, ayoko sumama, ayoko na doon... Nagtiis ako ng apat na taon... Ayoko sumama kaya ako nagpa-rescue."
Connie Malilin from the Women's Desk Officer of the barangay said that Lilia was locked up for a total of 23 days.
"Hindi porke kasambahay puwede na saktan o maltratuhin. Sana mamulat ang mga amo na may pagkakamali man (ang kasambahay), gawin ang tamang proseso."
"Itinawag sa amin. Noong unang punta namin, naka-double lock ['yung pinto]. Mayroon naman tayong mga home for the aged... Hindi naman hayop 'yun, tao 'yun, para ganunin," said barangay kagawad, Robert Marcelo.
Lilia said her knee and back is very painful because of the alleged abuse of her employers.
She also can't walk properly because she was allegedly pushed by the grandchild of her employer causing her to fall badly.
"Sinakal ako dahil sa kalan... 'Pag mali ang ginawa ko, sinundot ang mata ko, sabi ko 'Diyos ko, Diyos ko ano nangyayari sa akin? Wala naman akong kasalanan, bakit ako kinulong?' Kasi nakapagkuwento ako," Lilia explained.
The president of the subdivision's homeowners association, Cesar Goyenechea said that last 2016 Lilia already told them about the abuse that was happening but he didn't thought it was that serious because her employers seemed "mabait."
"May binanggit siya na she was being maltreated pero hindi ko sineryoso that time kasi nakita ko naman ang amo niya parang mabait... Only last Thursday, we found out she was locked up. Gutom na raw siya, wala na siyang pagkain," Cesar said.
Lilia's employer, Ernesto Dajose, is currently in the hospital but his grandchild and assistant went to the Barangay.
The grandchild refused to be interviewed.
"Gusto ko siya na makulong siya, may karapatan ako na makulong siya," the elderly house helper said.
The barangay assured that they will help Lilia claim her salary and file for a case against her employers.
