- Netizens applauded Ethel for his witty and hilarious reply
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque’s recent comments about the controversy surrounding the Philippine Rise or Benham Rise have drawn criticisms.
One of the Filipinos who criticized the comments is comedienne Ethel Booba.
Ethel tweeted about the comments of Roque that the Filipino people should not be alarmed that China has named five features of the Philippine Rise because that country has also named several dishes.
"For me, we should not be too alarmist on this because China has given names to many things.
“Siopao, mami, all these were named by the Chinese. Hototay soup, but this did not mean that they owned these," Roque said.
As a response to his comments, Ethel gave Roque his very own Chinese name.
“Your Chinese name is Gah Go. Charot,” the comedienne tweeted.
Netizens found Ethel’s tweet to be hilarious and witty:
“May nanalo na naman ngayong araw sa internet”
“sunog kn nmn kay ethel.may mas utak p to kesa syo”
“Harapan na tayong ninanakawan tas ikukumpara mo pa sa pagkain yun issue?? Sayang pasahod ng taong bayan sa inyo, wag paghaluin ang katol at solvent ha??”
“Wow. logic nya ha. Kaya nga chinese food tawag sa kanila eh!!!”
“You are so witty. You’re funny and that’s what make you likeable!”
The Benham Rise was officially called The Philippine Rise in 2017 by the Philippine government.
This was done after the United Nations officially approved the Philippines’ claim that it has rights over the waters.
President Rodrigo Duterte has allowed China – which does not accept the UN ruling – to conduct research on the Rise.
KAMI is hoping that this issue surrounding Benham Rise would be settled in a peaceful and fair manner!
