- She made a comment on the lowering proficiency of Filipinos in the English language
- This was after she saw a report on Philstar comparing Filipino graduates' proficiency to cab drivers
Lea Salonga posted a comment on her Twitter account asking who shall take the blame for the lowering English proficiency of Pinoy graduates.
Her question came about because of a report in Philstar stating that the English skills of Filipinos are lower than what's required for Dubai taxi drivers.
The same report also stated that still, Filipino graduates' English proficiency is lower than that required for high school graduates in Thailand.
One netizen responded that to compare graduates in PH with that of Dubai drivers would be so demeaning.
However, Lea had a retort asking if the report made by Philstar is "off the mark."
There was also one netizen who said that some Pinoy's are afraid to speak in English because they fear of getting it wrong and get bashed for it.
Well, whether indeed Pinoy's now have a lower English proficiency or not, the mere thought is something to worry about.
Lea Salonga is known internationally for her role in Miss Saigon and Les Miserables.
She is the sister of renowned musical director Gerald Salonga.
The singer/actress used to do movies in PH.
