Sunshine Cruz prefers that her daughters finish their education first before pursuing their careers or joining showbiz.

In an interview with PUSH, Sunshine stressed that she will not disallow her daughters if they want to join showbiz, but she wants them to focus on their studies first.

Her eldest, Angelina, has signed up with Universal Records and has released her first single in February last year.

"She's 16 years old pero focused kasi siya e senior high, focused sa studies. Pero consistent honor students naman sila pero 'yun muna ang choice ko at choice nila na mag-focus muna sa studies at pasundot-sundot muna na singing and guestings si Angelina," explained Sunshine.

Her two younger daughters, Sam and Chesca, are 13 and 12 years old, respectively.

Sunshine said they do not have any offers yet, but if given the right project and opportunity, she will also consider it.

The singer-actress wants her daughters to finish college and made sure to be a good example for them herself.

Last year, Sunshine graduated with a degree in psychology from Arellano University.

She studied under an alternative program, allowing her to complete her degree as a working professional.

Sunshine did not finish her studies on time because she pursued acting at an early age. She entered showbiz as a teenager in 1992.

"Kahit 40 years old ako tinapos ko talaga ‘yung BA Psychology sa Arellano kahit mahirap kasi gusto kong ipakita sa anak ko na hindi lang ako puro salita na ‘mag-aral kayo’, so I wanted to prove to them na kahit single mom ako, hirap sa trabaho, kaya ko pa rin magtapos ng pag-aaral," said Sunshine.

Sunshine told PUSH that she plans to pursue a Masters degree in Psychology.

However, those plans will have to wait because she still needs to save up and work for the future of her children.

"I need to save for the future of my kids kasi medyo maraming oras ang kakailanganin natin para mag-focus ako kung mag ma-masters ako so hopefully magawa ko naman bago naman ako mag singkwenta anyos at maging psychiatrist or psychologist ako kasi ‘yun ang gusto ko talaga," said Sunshine.

Sunshine belongs to the Cruz family clan. She is the cousin of actors Sheryl Cruz, Donna Cruz, and Geneva Cruz. Tirso Cruz III is her uncle.

She married actor Cesar Montano in 2000 and had three daughters with him.

Their annulment was granted in August 2013.
