- Filipino Romero Duno won against Mexican boxer Yardley Armenta
- The 22-year-old fighter finished the bout in just a minute and one second
- Duno hails from Cotabato City
Could he be the next Manny Pacquiao?
Romero Duno surprised everyone in the audience when he knocked out Yardley Armenta of Mexico in just 61 seconds.
According to ABS-CBN News, the Filipino boxer fought Armenta in the lightweight category at the Forum in Los Angeles, California on January 27.
Duno fired off a series of punches that made his opponent fall to the ground within the first minute of the first round.
The referee ended the fight officially at the 1:01 mark.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Duno said he planned to finish the fight no later than the fifth round.
He said he, too, was surprised by how quickly he won.
"Ang plano talaga namin is tapusin ng three to four rounds, or five rounds. Pag akyat ko sa ring, medyo na-excite nang kaunti, kaya ayun ang nangyari," said Duno.
He added: "Hindi ko naman inakala na ganoon lang kadali yun."
Duno also said he still have a lot to prove and wanted to show off his skills to the Filipino boxing fans.
Unfortunately, the fight ended before he can do so.
"Hindi ko po masyadong naipakita lahat. Pero blessed naman ako dahil nanalo pa rin ako. Sana sa susunod na laban, panoorin po niyo, siguro mas mahaba na siguro yan," said Duno.
The boxer from Cotabato City now has a record of 16 wins and one loss.
He had won 14 times via knockout.
Duno debuted in boxing in July 2014.
He now resides in General Santos City, the same hometown of Manny Pacquiao.
