- Bianca Gonzales shared her breastfeeding story on Instagram
- She recounted how her plan to breastfeed for 9 months extended to 2 years
- Now that her daughter doesn't want to direct latch anymore, she felt emotional
On January 16, Bianca Gonzalez posted a long and emotional story about her breastfeeding experience on Instagram.
Bianca wanted to encourage mothers to breastfeed, but clarified that they should not feel pressured to do so if they really don't want to.
She wrote: "There is an insane pressure on mothers nowadays, partly because of social media, to breastfeed. Til now I don't know whether I myself was pressured, or it was really something I wanted to do; it could be both."
Bianca further shared that she initially planned to breastfeed her daughter Lucia exclusively for only 9 months.
"It was so difficult. Low milk supply was my number one issue. Then there is lack of sleep, going to work and pumping, wasted milk, the list goes on. And the struggle is real."
But her breastfeeding extended to two years.
"Every time I would think of giving up, for some reason, her milk demands would be less (as in less times in a day or less ounces), so I would figure, 'sige, kaya pa naman.' Until I reached 2 years."
It was a good thing her husband JC Intal was so supportive. She also got help from their midwife, and household helps.
After Lucia turned two years old, Bianca said her baby weaned herself from breastfeeding. Lucia would only latch on to her twice a day - in the morning before a nap, and at night.
Now, Lucia is done breastfeeding.
Bianca explained: "We had been traveling; and when you travel, nagugulo ang sleeping and eating schedule. And my guess is, she figured, 'Kaya ko naman pala matulog nang hindi na nagmi-milk.' I was emotional for about a week."
Because she wouldn't need her breastmilk anymore, Bianca decided to donate the remaining bags to The Parenting Emporium.
The donated milk will be used to feed babies whose mothers cannot produce milk.
Bianca wrote: "To survive 2 years of #breastfeeding and to get to donate a few bags of 'liquid gold' is still unbelievable to me, and one of my life's biggest accomplishments. OA, pero totoo."
Many mothers were touched by Bianca's story. Some even shared their own experiences as replies to her post.
Bianca gave more support for all moms and asked for a stop to all the shaming and criticisms.
"Motherhood is difficult enough and we definitely could use all the support and guidance we can get from other moms."
Bianca is a Filipina TV host and model. She is the cousin of actors Dingdong Dantes, Arthur Solinap, and Carlo Gonzales.
She is married to PBA player JC Intal. They got married in 2014.
She gave birth to her daughter Lucia on October 23, 2015.
