- President Rodrido Duterte threatens to fire airport officials over baggage theft issue
- According to him if the same incident happens again, he would make sure the officials involved will get fired
- The warning was issued while he is in a meeting in Malacañang with Clark airport officials
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte issued a warning against Clark International Airport officials regarding the baggage pilferage issue.
While on a meeting with Clark airport officials and Jovinal Dela Cruz and Rosemary Versoza, the two overseas Filipino workers who were alleged victims of baggage pilferage in the said airport, Duterte said he would fire the officials the next time it happens again.
“The next time, if it happens, I will fire you. Sigurado ‘yan. Basta may nangyari pa ulit na maski nakawan o ano, I will fire you,” Duterte said.
“For the other airports in the country, I do not want it repeated ever again.”
According to a report by ABS-CBN News, the pilferage incident involved 6 Miascor Aviation Services employees.
KAMI learned that according to the president, the incident was unsettling because he made a “passionate and solemn” vow to stop all kinds of pilferage and extortion activities at the country’s airports.
“Very unsettling kasi sa akin ‘yan after making that passionate and solemn promise that everything sa airport, lalo na sa maliit, lalo na sa maliit na tao,” said the President.
“I would also demand that the airport authorities should call the complainant and make amends, maybe in public to apologize for the sloppy job that we are doing.”
According to Duterte, the service provider contract should be terminated.
“I would demand that there will be justice instantly. Kung sino ‘yung provider, service provider diyan, you terminate the contract and look for another one. And so for the other airports in the country, I do not want it repeated ever again,” he said.
Clark International Airport Corporation filed charges against the involved employees and they were also terminated from work.
Dela Cruz's baggage and balikbayan box were allegedly pilfered inside the office of Miascor at the terminal.
According to the Acting President of Clark International Airport Corp., the Miascor employees admitted to pilfering the baggage.
This is after MIASCOR conducted an investigation.
