- Actress Shaina Magdayao seriously thought about entering a convent
- She said she wanted a life of service and the entertainment world is too selfish
- Now, Shaina said she no longer wants to become a nun and has found her calling
Can you imagine Shaina Magdayao as a nun? Unfortunately, that may never happen anymore in real life.
On January 11, Shaina gave a definitive answer to host Boy Abunda during her guesting in late night talk show "Tonight With Boy Abunda".
Boy asked her during the Tama o Mali segment: "Pinag-iisipan pa rin ni Shaina ang pagpasok sa kumbento at ang pagiging madre."
Shaina energetically answered, "Mali na! Thanks to the foundation, may sagot na sa calling of service ko."
Shaina is referring to the Smile Cares Foundation, which she founded in July 2017. It aims to help underprivileged children through accessible education.
But in 2013, Shaina wanted to leave showbiz for good because she seriously wanted to become a nun.
In an interview with PUSH in 2017, Shaina said, "Kasi parang feeling ko, may calling ako to serve. And at that time, malapit kasi ako sa mga madre. And hanggang ngayong naman, malapit ako sa mga madre."
In a separate interview with PEP, Shaina further explained about her calling to serve, especially in the messy and materialistic world of entertainment.
"Kasi ang show business is all about you, about fame, about temporary things. So, service, akala ko, madre."
As time went by, after researching and meeting different people, she figured out that the convent is not the only way to serve.
She was able to establish the foundation with the help of generous friends.
Smile Cares is also co-managed by PBA player LA Tenorio.
Shaina Magdayao is an actress and dancer under Star Magic.
She is the younger sister of singer-actress Vina Morales.
She is part of the cast of upcoming ABS-CBN teleserye "Asintado".
