Many fans were shocked when Paul Soriano’s wife Toni Gonzaga did not attend the premiere night of her husband’s MMFF 2017 entry, “Siargao.” Toni is always present at the premiere nights of her husband’s films that is why some fans wondered why she was a “no-show” at the event.

But before the public starts to speculate, KAMI learned that Direk Paul was quick to explain the noticeable absence of his wife during their red-carpet screening on Dec. 20 at Trinoma. According to the acclaimed director, his wife was absent because she was taping for her show, “Home Sweetie Home.”

Paul added that Toni will be attending the Makati premiere instead. The Trinoma premiere, on the other hand, was attended by the cast of the film — Jericho Rosales, Erich Gonzales and Jasmine Curtis-Smith.

"She's taping for ‘Home Sweetie Home,’” Paul explained, as per “There's another preview tomorrow so she'll watch the Makati premiere naman.”

Direk Paul was also asked if there was any awkwardness between wife Toni and Kapamilya star Erich Gonzales, who was recently linked to the award-winning filmmaker. Paul admitted that he don’t have any idea if there was any awkwardness between the girls, stressing that both of them are friends.

Apart from the cast and Paul, other celebrities also graced the “Siargao” premiere night including Jericho’s wife Kim Jones, Dina Bonnevie and Erich’s best friend Julia Barretto.

Despite the “unfair, wild and irrelevant” rumors about Erich and husband Direk Paul, Toni praised “Siargao” on her Instagram post. The 33-year-old Ultimate Multimedia star said she loved the film, saying it was “so quiet, moving and it spoke straight to her heart.”

Toni also has some good words to say to the whole cast. She even hopes that Jericho will win the best actor award at the MMFF 2017 awards.

Meanwhile, Toni is set to showcase her acting prowess on Asia’s longest-running drama anthology show, "Maalala Mo Kaya.” On the show’s Christmas episode that will air on Saturday, Dec. 23, Toni will play as Josephine Llorca, a woman who chose to stay single to take care of her mom with Alzheimer’s disease, Bandera revealed.
