- She already had six children at the time
- The octuplets are now all grown up
A US woman who stunned the world in 2009 by having eight babies at once is loving life as a mom to a whopping 14 children.
Natalie Suleman was already a single mother of six children at the time. She decided to have more babies through in vitro fertilisation (IVF) but was surprised when doctors told her she would have octuplets.
She gained worldwide fame with the birth of her eight children — daughters Maliyah and Nariyah and sons Noah, Isaiah, Jonah, Makai, Josiah, and Jeremiah.
She was dubbed "Octomom" and the media constantly profiled her. Eight years later, her life is surprisingly normal. Her octuplets started school in August this year.
In an interview, she said she decided to retreat from public eye in 2013 and focus on raising her kids. Her Instagram page, where she has more than 37,000 followers, features normal family activities.
I was alive again. As ‘Octomom,’ I was the walking dead. When I woke up and I went back to my rooms, my helping profession, and my kids, we were struggling financially but it didn’t matter.
I never felt so free and so happy in my life. I have embraced every day with gratitude.
