- President Duterte attended the 7th LGBT yearend gathering in Davao City
- He announced that he wants to appoint a member of the community to the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor
- He gave the LGBT community until the second week of January to give a nominee
President Rodrigo Duterte said he is looking for a "bright" and "honest" person to represent the LGBT community in the revamped urban poor commission.
On December 17, Sunday, Duterte made the pronouncement in front of the LGBT community in Davao City.
He said he wants a nominee by the second week of January.
"Give me a bright person. He might be gay, might be a lesbian. I'd like to nominate somebody to be representative of the LGBT sector," said Duterte.
The president has recently fired all officials of the urban poor commission because of accusations of corruption.
"You nominate the representative from the LGBT sector kasi I fired the entire Commission of the Urban Poor, the head, for traveling so much in so short a time, as if he was using the money of the people like his own. So 'yang commission na 'yan, bubuuin ko pa," said Duterte as quoted by Malaya.
He also recently announced that he wants Kariton Klasrum pioneer Efren Peñaflorida to lead the commission.
