Today officially marks the beginning of the 2 round of the playoffs for the western conference. The perennially competitive Spurs, looking to get into the conference finals for the 4 time in 5 seasons, squared off against Kevin Durant and Russel Westbrook’s fiery Thunder squad. Most expected an epic duel to go down between the former MVP Durant and former finals MVP; Kawhi Leonard. The story of the game turned out to be a lot more lopsided than people anticipated.
The Spurs got off to a hot start and never looked back in game 1 against the Thunder. San Antonio scored 43 points in the 1 quarter alone which ties the franchise record for most points scored in a single quarter. The Spur’s stingy defense and unselfish passing got the team clicking on all cylinders offensively. This has been the most complete game from the Spurs this season as coach pop got contributions from every member of his team. Danny Green pitched in 5 3-pointers, while LaMarcus Aldrige and Kawhi Leonard led the Spurs on both ends of the court, combining for 63 points in the game. Aldridge simply could not miss in this game as he went off for 38 points on 18 of 23 shooting from the field, and grabbed 6 rebounds. Leonard had a stat line of 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Ibaka led the way for the Thunder with 19 points and only 2 rebounds. Kevin Durant was held to only 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Game 2 is scheduled to take place in a few days.
