- Congresswoman Vilma Santos failed to attend AiAi Delas Alas' wedding on December 12
- The Lipa City representative voted in favor of the extension of Martial Law in Mindanao
- She explains her reasons below
Former actress and now congresswoman Vilma Santos said she was not able to attend the wedding of close friend AiAi Delas Alas this week because of pain in her knee.
The Star for All Seasons tore her miniscus, a cartilage in the knee, when she was dancing for her musical variety show "Vilma!" in the early 90s.
She opted not to have it operated on because she stopped performing when she got pregnant with her second son, Ryan.
"Pero sinabi ng doctor, pag hindi inoperahan 'yan, babalik at babalik 'yan. Pero 'pag hindi pa ito nawala bago mag-New Year, ie-MRI kasi namamaga 'yung tuhod," said Vilma in an interview with PUSH.
She added that AiAi understood that she had to take care of her physical wellbeing.
PUSH also asked Congressman Vilma about her vote on the Martial Law extension, which the joint session of Congress deliberated on December 13.
"I voted yes sa extension kasi, unang-una, I'm a reservist. Lieutenant colonel ako ng reservist sa Air Force mula pa noong mayor ako hanggang governor. Malaki ang passion ko sa mga men in uniform. Nakita ko kung papaano nagpakahirap 'yung mga sundalo para mabawi lang 'yung Marawi," said the congresswoman.
She added that she hopes her vote will help the soldiers and residents of Mindanao.
She also believes there were no military abuses in today's Martial Law.
"This one is just to contain the law enforcement, peace and order in Mindanao. Please give that support, 'yun ang kailangan nila," she added.
