Mang Orlando had polio since he was still a child. Aside from his condition, he is also a single parent of 4 children.
Despite of his difficulty in walking, Mang Orlando makes it a point that his family eats regularly.
His wife died after giving birth to his son 'Joshua'. He said that she actually had a heart condition.
"Mabigat po ‘yung nangyari kasi po namatayan na po ako, wala na nga po akong paa,” Orlando admitted.
“Nawalan pa’ko ng isang kamay, kaya isang kamay na lang bale gumagana sa’kin dahil nawalan nga po ako ng isa.” he added.
He also revealed that he almost considered 'suicide' as the best solution for all his problems.
"Naisip ko po kawawa ‘yung mga bata, nawalan na nga ng ina, mawawalan pa ng ama,” he said.
Because of his love for his children, he was able to overcome all his miseries. He then turned out to become a loving, kind, responsible and hardworking father.
“Sinasabi ko po sa mga katulad ko, huwag kayong mamalimos. Hangga’t kaya niyo po, hangga’t malakas ‘yung mga katawan niyo, maghanapbuhay kayo. Mag-isip kayo kung anong magandang hanapbuhay para sa inyo,” Mang Orlando shared.
Mang Orlando makes 'bitsay' out of bamboo. Bitsay is like a small 'basket' used as container for tinapa (smikoed fish) He sells it to provide financially for his family everyday.
"Ang pinagkukunan ko po ng hanapbuhay, paggawa ng bitsay. ‘Yun po ang pinaka-kwan ng hanapbuhay ko araw-araw.”
"Yang bitsay po ang kinukuha ko ng panggastos sa amin… sa mga bata, pang-baon, pambili ho mamin ng bigas, diyan po namin lahat kiay' is made out of bamboo,
Orlando needs to climb bamboo trees, cuts them in order to make 'bitsay'
