- Derek Ramsay admitted he’s not interested in “destination weddings”
- “All of You” actor explained why he wanted to get married in the Philippines
- Ramsay denied rumored engagement proposal to girlfriend Joanne Villablanca
Derek Ramsay was recently making headlines after reports emerged that he and his girlfriend for three years, Joanne Villablanca, were already engaged. But this week, the Filipino-British actor made the news for sharing his thoughts on the concept of “destination wedding,” a common trend among Filipino celebrities.
According to the report that KAMI obtained from Pang-Masa (via PhilStar.com), Ramsay stressed that when it comes to engagement and marriage, he still prefers to do it in his home country — the Philippines. For the 41-year-old actor, he feels it’s still different to get married in your own country.
“I have nothing against destination weddings,” Ramsay said. “Pero kung dito lang sa Pilipinas, mas makaka-attend ang ibang mga relatives mo, ‘di ba?”
Aside from being a Filipino, Ramsay explained that destination weddings could be much of a "hassle," especially when it comes to the details, preparations and arrangements of the event. The “All of You” actor added that getting married in your home country is more accessible and you could even ask help from your friends.
Meanwhile, Ramsay denied the reports that he’s already engaged to his model girlfriend. Rumors have it that Ramsay proposed to Villablanca during their recent trip to Europe, together with their families.
Just like his preference in weddings, Ramsay said the proposal will certainly happen in the Philippines.
“That’s not true,” Ramsay stated. “If I’m going to propose, gusto ko dito rin sa Pilipinas.”
The actor also pointed out that their European escapade was meant for their families, and not just for them. According to Ramsay, “The proposal will come at the right time.”
KAMI applauds Ramsay for staying true to his own roots and chooses to propose and get married in his own country.
