- After the success of “Unexpectedly Yours,” Cathy Garcia-Molina revealed her retirement is set in 2019
- Blockbuster director said her retirement is also final
- Molina also shared the reason behind she’s giving up her directorial career is for her children
Cathy Garcia-Molina movie fans are definitely devastated after reports broke out that the award-winning rom-com director is set to retire in 2019. Molina's directorial career will end as her contract with ABS-CBN expires in the first quarter of the said year.
Following the success of her latest film, “Unexpected Yours,” Molina is still bound to do more movie and TV projects for the network. Unfortunately, it will only last until February 2019.
According to the report that KAMI learned from Inquirer, Molina is set to make one last movie and some teleseryes or soap operas. During the blogger’s conference for her latest film on Thursday, Molina shared the possibility of doing another KathNiel film.
The 46-year-old acclaimed TV and movie director, however, stressed that she’ll make the movie if it can still fit in her contract. Molina explained that she has some TV obligations so from the first quarter of 2018, she is slated to do the TV projects.
Molina added that her retirement is already final. As for the main reason behind it, Molina said she’s giving up her career for her children, just like any other parent.
But the blockbuster director emphasized that she’s not closing any doors for the future. At this point in her life, she has to take care of her children but if ever she misses making films, the infamous Star Cinema director said she can “always go back.”
She even borrowed the lines of one of her iconic characters — Basha from “One More Chance” and “A Second Chance” — in saying, “I don’t want to live my life with what ifs anymore, I want to know what is.”
Molina also candidly confessed that for 25 years, she dreamt of being a housewife. Unfortunately, that said dream never materialize because she has given those years of her life to the movie industry.
But after more than two decades of hardwork, Direk Cathy can finally experience motherhood with no limits with her growing kids. What’s more heartbreaking for her fans, however, is the fact that Molina is not only retiring from her job but also migrating to a different country.
“My children are important that’s why I’m giving the rest of my years to them,” she explained. “These are the things na hindi ko gusto sa trabahong meron ako. As much as I want to give you films, mga anak ko kawawa. I have to think of them.”
Meanwhile, Molina is still hoping that she could still work with Piolo Pascual, who personally requested to work with her before she retires. Sadly, Pascual is not on her lineup for 2018.
KAMI applauds Ms. Cathy Garcia-Molina for prioritizing her children over her career. However, we feel sad for losing a talented director that the film industry truly needs.
