- Domestic workers in NCR will receive an additional P1,000 in their monthly salary
- The wage hike will start this December
- The new minimum monthly salary for housemaids is now P3,500
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced yesterday that the P1,000-wage increase for local domestic workers has been approved on November 30.
KAMI learned of this good news from GMA News Online.
The wage hike applies to domestic workers in Metro Manila only. It covers "general househelp, yaya, cook, gardener, laundry person, or any person who regularly perform domestic work in one household on an occupational basis."
Their minimum wage is increased from P2,500 to P3,500 monthly and will start in December.
However, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board of NCR (RTWPB-NCR) clarified that those who perform household work only occasionally and not as a job are not covered by the new order.
Employers who will not follow the increase may face a fine of at least P10,000 to P40,000.
KAMI is happy about this good news and wishes our kasambahays a happy Christmas indeed!
