Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson would definitely win a seat if she runs for Senator in 2019, according to her boss Martin Andanar.
Andanar said Uson's five million-strong social media following would reflect in real crowds for the Senate campaign.
"Kung winnability lang ang pag-usapan or 'yung possibility of winning ay talagang no brainer na si Mocha. She can really draw the crowd in a Senate campaign," said Andanar in an interview in DZRP radio according to the Philippine Star.
The possibility of a senatorial bid for the blogger-turned-Asec was first floated by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on Friday. Alvarez said that the ruling PDP-Laban is eyeing Uson and presidential spokesperson Harry Roque for its senatorial line up in the 2019 mid-term elections.
Uson and Roque, however, had already said they are not interested in running for the Senate. Although Uson said she might still run if President Rodrigo Duterte wants her to.
Uson was awarded a position in government after playing a crucial role in President Duterte's election campaign last year. She is in charge of Malacañang's social media platforms and accreditation of blogger-supporters.
Uson has been using her personal blog to discredit media outlets, especially those that release reports critical of the President.
Before, and even after, assuming office, Uson has been accused of spreading false information through her blog. Her critics called for her termination through the hashtag #FireMocha, which trended on Twitter last August.
Despite several blunders, however, Uson still enjoys President Duterte's trust and confidence.
"Mocha is still in a campaign mode until now. She protects the president," said Andanar.
