Duterte should be consistent with his statements
The Palace has urged voters to take seriously the inconsistencies of Mayor Duterte’s statements. Undeclared bank accounts and ill-gotten wealth allegations should not be underestimated.
Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office undersecretary Manuel Quezon III has noted that undeclared bank accounts, which may lead to ill-gotten wealth, are serious allegations. These allegations should be answered by Duterte consistently, and not backtracking when pushed to a corner. He emphasized the need for public officials to have public trust.
“Lahat ng mga opisyal sa pamahalaan, in a sense, talagang may obligasyon na hindi mo pwedeng idaan sa teknikalidad. Ang pagtatanong sa ganitong mga bagay, ang proteksyon na binibigay sa pangkaraniwang citizen ay in a sense walang ganung karapatan ang opisyal dahil public office is a public trust,” said Quezon.
He said that Duterte has to face this issue head-on.
“Ito ay isang bagay na kailangan harapin ng magiting na Mayor Duterte,” he added. Duterte still leads in presidential surveys.
“Titingnan nila kung emosyon ang magdadala sa kanila o malalim na paninindigan ng mga kandidato,” noting that this crunch time is where people firmly decide who will lead the country for the next six years.
He expressed hope that people, even this late into the race, will wake up and realize the importance of continuing reforms.
“Habang papalapit ang seryosong desisyon na kailangan nating gawin sa susunod na anim na taon, talagang narerealize ng ating mga kababayan ang kahalagahan ng pagtutuloy at pag-angat at pagbubuo ng isang malawak na coalition,” he said.
