Wendy Valdez shares heartbreak of caring for her son with spina bifida

Former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate Wendy Valdez shared the trials she faced as a first-time mother in a recent episode of “Magandang Buhay.”

KAMI learned about her story from ABS-CBN News.

Wendy shared that she had a miscarriage in her first pregnancy with her husband Norman Garcia.

When she got pregnant for the second time, she found out that her baby Seth has a condition called spina bifida.

She had to deliver Seth via cesarean section because the swelling in the baby’s back could burst through normal delivery which could then cause cerebral palsy, autism and brain damage.

"Kunwari ang bukol (nandito sa likod), so lahat ng afftected doon pababa, it can be paralized as in totally 'di makakagalaw or may parts ng body niya na hindi maigalaw o maikilos, like 'yung sa bladder and bowel movement.

“So when I read about that umiyak ako ng never in my life to the Lord. I'm a first-time mom, tapos baby, tapos kailangan siyang operahan. Parang Lord, I can not afford to see my son like that.'

“So sabi ko 'Bakit ganoon, Lord?' Ang hirap parang di ko siya ma-absorb at ma-accept," Wendy admitted.

The baby underwent two operations already to treat his spina bifida.

However, his treatment is a lifelong process because of the severity of his condition.

"He is a fighter talaga. Actually si Seth he has eight to 10 doctors at the moment. Mayroon siya sa legs, may PT, mayroon siya sa bladder and bowel movement.

“Mayroon siya sa head, mayroon siyang pedia. Parang every week, or two weeks we go to the hospital, parang kabisado ko na lahat ng clinic.

“Hindi siya kagaya ng ibang operation o sickness na paglabas ng ospital ay okay na. It's different. It's a life-long journey,” the loving mom explained.
