Despite belonging to different political parties, major local candidates in Bicol unite to deliver 1 million votes for presidential candidate Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, calling it the “One Bicol for Duterte 2016” campaign.
The local candidates joined Duterte and his running mate Senator Alan Cayetano in a campaign rally held in Camarines Norte on Friday, April 29.
The following candidates, some belonging to political parties of Duterte’s rivals, promised to deliver votes for the leading presidential bet:
Al Bichara (reelectionist governor of Albay), Antonio Kho (running for governor of Masbate), Atoy Typoco (running for governor of Camarines Norte), Edgardo Tallado (running for reelection as governor of Camarines Norte), Mark Dioneda (running for governor of Sorsogon), Rolando Andaya (running for reelection as congressman of Camarines Sur), Jun Verceles (running for reelection as congressman of Catanduanes), and Christopher Co (nominee of AKB party-list group).
The candidates pledged their support for the presidential front-runner despite the current allegations of Senator Trillanes, who exposed Duterte’s alleged secret bank accounts and bank transactions amounting to billions.
Duterte has admitted the existence of those bank accounts but contested the total amount claimed by Trillanes.
Meanwhile, this “One Bicol for Duterte 2016” campaign adds to the already intense political situation in Bicol.
Last April 22, Albay governor Joey Salceda announced that he was dropping Mar Roxas in favor of Grace Poe.
In a text message sent to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Salceda also said that “all Bicol mainland governors are now for Grace Poe,” referring to himself, Gov Miguel Luis Villafuerte of Camarines Sur, Gov Raul Lee of Sorsogon and Gov Edgardo Tallado of Camarines Norte.
Tallado was reported to have spent money for Duterte’s campaign sorties and paraphernalia before supporting Poe.
Lee, on the other hand, hosted Vice President Jejomar Binay at a rally last Thursday and promised to deliver votes for him in the upcoming elections despite expressing allegiance to Poe.
