- Joey de Leon bashed people who suffer from depression
- He said that depression is an imaginary illness
- Celebrities took to social media to slam Joey’s comments
Celebrities took to social media to share their reaction towards the comments of “Eat Bulaga” host Joey de Leon about people who suffer from depression.
KAMI learned about their comments from PEP.ph.
The controversy started when Joey said on “Eat Bulaga” that depression is not a real mental illness and that people who have been diagnosed with depression should not be supported.
“Yung depression, gawa-gawa lang ng mga tao 'yan. Gawa lang nila sa sarili nila,” Joey said.
His co-hosts, Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards, tried to correct Joey by saying that depression is real and that it is not a joke.
However, Joey countered them by saying that they were wrong.
“Hindi, huwag niyo suportahan, gawa-gawa lang niya yun. Wala, nagpapasosyal lang. Kapag mayaman, depression. Kapag mahirap, wala, wala kang pag-asa sa buhay,” Joey said.
After the news broke out about Joey’s comments, several celebrities took to social media to share their reaction.
They include Iza Calzado, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Bb. Pilipinas-International 2017 Mariel de Leon, Jake Ejercito, Bela Padilla, Khalil Ramos, and Bianca Gonzalez.
KAMI is hoping that awareness about depression and other forms of mental illness will improve in our country. It is a matter of life and death for so many people!
