Vilma Santos speaks out against the P1,000 budget for the CHR

Luis Manzano has clarified the stance of his mom, Lipa City Representative Vilma Santos, about the P1,000 budget for the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in 2018.

KAMI has learned about Vilma’s stance from Luis’ Twitter via PEP.ph.

Some netizens speculated that Vilma agreed with the 2018 budget for CHR because her name was missing from the list of those who opposed the budget.

Luis clarified on his Twitter that his mom was actually against the budget and that the reason why she was not able to vote was because of her illness.

“First, my mom is against the 1k budget of the CHR. Second, she wasn't able to vote since she was about to be confined and was/is under meds," Luis wrote.

Luis also showed the text message of Vilma:

“I am against cutting the budget of the CHR. The commission has a duty to perform its constitutional mandate.

“With so many crimes/EJK – it needs more resources for these investigations. Ito ang isang ahensya na tumutulong sa karapatang pangtao!

“I wasn’t able to attend yesterday’s session cause I had an ulcer attack. Am under medication. But will work today,” Vilma’s text message to Luis read.

As for Vilma’s alleged Twitter account @vilmaSRecto, which seemed to have implied that she did not vote against the budget, Luis said that it was a fake account.

The budget for the CHR will be deliberated in the Senate.

KAMI is hoping that justice will prevail in this controversy!
