- Ted Failon’s “Failon Ngayon” featured a story about an allegedly questionable purchase of vehicles by the MMDA
- MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino filed a libel case against Failon and three staff members of the show
- Failon posted bail at a local court in Tagaytay City
ABS-CBN newscaster Ted Failon posted bail on Tuesday at a local court in Tagaytay City due to the libel case filed against him for an episode of “Failon Ngayon.”
KAMI learned about the controversy from ABS-CBN News.
The case was filed against Failon by MMDA Chairman Francisco Tolentino.
The “Failon Ngayon” episode involved an investigation of an allegedly questionable purchase of 18 motorcycles by the MMDA back in 2014.
Based on a Commission on Audit (COA) report, the purchase allegedly did not undergo bidding.
Three other staff members of the show were indicted.
Failon’s camp also appealed to the Department of Justice (DOJ) to transfer the case from Tagaytay City into another location because that city is allegedly Tolentino’s bailiwick, serving as its mayor from 1995 to 2004.
His sister-in-law, Agnes Tolentino, is the incumbent mayor of Tagaytay City today.
