  • KAMI spotted this footage of a battle between a seal and an octopus.
  • Watch and see who won between the two animals.

In a video recorded by one of the kayakers in New Zealand, they spotted a flock of birds circling around in one spot in the vast of ocean.

This is a sign of something is happening.

As they got close, they saw an on-going fight between a 120kg seal and a big octopus.

The octopus has clearly no chance of escaping this hungry seal.

Seals are fond of eating them and will eat up to 7kg of octopus a day since it is a vital part of their diet.

The battle went for almost 20 minutes!

The seal was wildly rocking the poor octopus back and fourth to dismantle it.

It is important for a seal to dismember the octopus first before eating it since it might get stuck to their throat and would have to throw it up.

Matt Foy, the owner of Kaikoura Kayaks said that:

"It is definitely not an everyday thing, you do see seals feeding on octopus but to spot them at this time of year is rarer ..."

"We hadn't seen anything like that for a few months ..."

Kaikoura Kayaks offers seal kayaking, family kayaking and more.
