Erik Matti lambasts members of 2017 MMFF selection committee

- Director Erik Matti slammed the 2017 MMFF selection committee

- The director accused the selection committee of choosing entires based on who is starring in the movies

- He also clarified that his problem is with the MMFF and not the movies' producers and actors

After the first four official entries for the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) were announced, director Erik Matti slammed the committee responsible for the selection process.

KAMI learned about his statements from

The first four entries are Coco Martin’s “Ang Panday,” Jennilyn Mercado’s “Almost is Not Enough,” Vice Ganda’s “The Revengers,” and Vic Sotto’s “Love Traps #FamilyGoals.”

According to Erik, he has no problems with the four movies, its actors and producers.

What he has a problem with is the MMFF selection committee itself.

"I'm not judging the four films that were chosen, but I'm judging how they were selected. It's the MMFF that I have a problem with and not the producers,” he said.

The acclaimed director implied that he has sources from inside the MMFF.

"Of course, hindi ko na masabi yung mga insider kong alam. Kasi pag nasabi ko yun, malilintikan. Pero I know what happened in the selection, diyan nanggagaling yung galit ko,” Erik explained.

The director of the highly-anticipated Darna movie said that his problem with the selection process is that the same kind of commercially-driven films are being selected by the committee while hiding behind the supposed artistic and cultural criteria.

"Ang problema kasi, it's the same type of films, it's the same kind of movies. I have no problem with having a film festival that's for commercial purposes, but change your criteria, change it.

"Okay, we only want movies that are commercial, that we feel is commercial. Wala na tayong pag-uusapan.

"But to hide behind the vision, which is artistic excellence, to push for cultural chuchu, global appeal, I think it's just…. Hindi hypocrisy, e. Maliit yung hypocrisy, e. Medyo garapal lang..."

"Pero alam naman namin dati pa na yun lang ang point: sino ang artista, sino producer, anong story. Wala nga istorya, e, may istorya pero hindi pinag-uusapan yung kung anong kuwento.

"Tinitingnan lang, Kris Aquino, okay, pasok. Si Bossing, pasok; Vice, pasok. Now, say it out right. Straight out. 'Ito lang gusto namin, may pelikula si ganito, ganito.

"Huwag na kayo mag-submit kung hindi niyo makuha yung mga artistang 'yan.' Then, di ba, hindi nasisira yung industriya?”

KAMI is hoping that the movies selected for the 2017 MMFF will have good stories, acting and direction!
