KAMI learned that doctors didn't think that Brina Kei M. Maxino would survive into adulthood due to her condition and a psychologist also believed that she wouldn't graduate grade school because she had Down syndrome.
Yet today, this 20-year-old with Down syndrome whom doctors believed would pass early in her life has graduated as high school valedictorian and is now an assistant teacher.
Brina Maxino shared how she was able to overcome the obstacles imposed by her condition and live a good life in her Facebook post.
Maxino shared that when she was just 9-days-old, doctors were doubtful if she would survive into adulthood due to her DS. At 10-years-old a psychologist said that she wouldn’t be able to finish grade school because of her condition.
When she was 16 years old, she graduated from a regular high school as the class valedictorian.
At 20-years-old, Maxino was already working as an assistant teacher – having graduated with a four-year degree in Bachelor of Arts, Major in History.
Brina attributes her success to her hard work and the many people who believed she would make it. She wishes to inspire other persons with disabilities (PWD) that they can live a full life.
