KAMI learned that the Philippines has been offered the hosting rights to the next edition of the pageant this November and Tourism chief Wanda Corazon Tulfo-Teo already made an announcement about this.
Philippines hosted 2016 Miss Universe pageant last January 30 and the coronation night was held at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Last June 9, Miss Universe Organization officials and some former candidates went to the country to negotiate and reached out to the DOT for the renewal of hosting contract.
Last January, former Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis Chavit Singson who was one of the major sponsors of Miss Universe 2016 said he is open to the possibility of staging the international pageant in the country again if government agencies will support him.
But according to Tourism chief Wanda Corazon Tulfo-Teo, it would be too soon for the country to host the pageant anew since the 66th Miss Universe is scheduled to be held during the last week of November this year.
Teo made an announcement at the International Conference on Sustainable Tourism for Development last Thursday, "No Miss Universe this year. Baka next year."
