Sickening photos of a young boy hanging in what seems to be a high-rise building made its rounds online.

The man who posted it, mistakenly identified as the father of the child in earlier reports, even had the audacity to caption the snaps, “1,000 likes or I will drop him”.

It was later found that the man responsible was a relative of the young boy, who simply held the baby by his t-shirt collar alone as he dangled him on the 15th-floor window of their apartment block.

One user commented: ''What is most striking is that it appears that the father is carrying his son with his left hand while using his right hand to take the picture, this means the picture is more important than the child's life.''

The horrendous act was said to be done just for fun, and for the sake of gaining Facebook "likes".

Amassing a a great number of social media shares since its posting, it sparked angry reactions as many netizens demanded to have whoever did it arrested and tried for child abuse charges.

Following his arrest, the man was sentenced to two years in prison, despite the child’s father urging the court to just forgive their relative for he was only playing a daring prank.

The accused denied putting the young boy’s life in danger. He said the images were altered as there were in fact railings in the balcony, which were clearly not seen in the pictures.

The court ruled against him. He will be serving time in jail for his reckless and derelict act.

KAMI wants to remind everyone to always be mindful and careful of everything that we post online. Our social media platforms say much about who we are, and the things we post can easily be used against us. Also, let us all be responsible in dealing with young children. Remember that they weren’t born into this world to be treated poorly.
