KAMI came across with this creepy story in Week in Weird where it featured the black angel statue in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Back in the days when Teresa Doleful Feldevert built this statue in 1912 as a symbol of sadness, the statue was said to be gleaming gold. The 8-foot tall statue was built when both of Teresa’s son and husband died.
When she also died in 1924, the golden statue turned into black and that’s when people started reporting different curses.
Many people think that Teresa was a witch and accordingly, whoever touches the statue she made will surely die.
There were 2 famous stories claiming that the curse was true. A female who visited the cemetery on a full moon and kissed the feet of the statue, in 6 month time, she died.
Another story was shared about a man who never believed in the curse, he was dared by his friends to kiss the statue and he died of heart attack on the spot.
Believe it or not, KAMI wants to remind you with the oldest saying “curiosity killed the cat”. Have you visited Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City? If yes, share with us your stories.
