Firefighters from California's Lompoc Fire Department immediately responded after they received a call about a burning house.
Homeowner Edward Vantassel informed the firefighters about his puppy Pooh who was still inside when they arrived.
They entered the house to rescue the puppy but what they found was unexpected.
The puppy was inside an overturned weighted box with his muzzle and rear legs tied with rubber bands.
Firefighters cut the bands and gave the Pooh water to drink. He was later brought to a vet for treatment.
Pooh has survived the fire and the abuse he experienced with his former owner and is now happily living with a foster family.
His former owner was taken into custody and charged with a felony count of cruelty to an animal.
This is a reminder from KAMI to sop any form of abuse to animals.
