KAMI learned from ABS CBNs PUSH that Maricar Reyes and Richard have been married for four years now. As a married couple, they decided to venture into a business which interests them both. In 2015, they launched Chocoliquor cakes. 2 years after, they launched Mocha Bourbon which accordingly took them half a year to research.
“Mocha sponge cake siya na medyo fluffy and then in between the two layers is a cream filling. The top has buttercream with an extra kick. Matagal nagawa ito kasi we’d cook one and then masyadong matamis so adjust ulit. Then you’d cook again then kulang and then you spend a month finding out what that missing thing is. Hindi mo alam eh. Na-solve naman eh.”
She was also thankful to Richard who have been very supportive. “Joint partnership talaga ito. I’m the research nerd so I do the YouTube studying. Si Richard because he worked with his dad for so long doon sa restaurant nila so talagang may reputation siya sa Chinese community. So he worked with his dad for quite some time. He cooked in the kitchen. Yung dila nila very particular. So when I bake a cake and he’d go, ‘Ay ganito, kulang sa ganito. I think bagay if we put more ganito.’ May ganun so the uniqueness of the flavor is really his doing. So it’s a partnership. Siya rin ang number one critic.”
By July, she planning to join a formal cooking and baking classes.
“Actually I will start maybe next month. Start with the basic kasi I’m not formally schooled eh in cooking. Meron kaming kakilala na may baking school so cake decorating ng konti and then let’s see where we go from there. Baby steps”
