With the recent hype of box-office hit ‘Wonder Woman’, actress Gal Gadot who plays the title role, has instantly risen to international stardom.
She’s truly got it all - the beauty, the body, and yes, the brains.
While we revel at her exceptional portrayal of the superhero character role, only quite a few actually know that Gal Gadot once joined Miss Universe, representing Israel.
KAMI caught this story on pep.ph showing us a peek into Gal Gadot’s Miss Universe past.
Gal Gadot probably first gained people's attention on her role as Gisele Yashar in the movie franchise “The Fast and the Furious”.
But did you also know she represented Israel in the 2004 Miss Universe pageant held in Ecuador?
Then a reluctant 18-year-old, Gal admitted she didn’t really give her all during the pageant, stressing “she didn’t want to have anything to do” with Miss Universe.
Winning Ms. Israel at a young age, she became unsure of why she joined in the first place, and the responsibilities that came with the title actually terrified her.
“I was like, ‘What? Miss Israel? All the responsibility of being Miss Israel?’
I just graduated high school, and I had some time in between going to the army.
And my mom figured, ‘Hey, don’t I send your photo? You finished school. This is, like, proper pageant, whatever.’
I got in and I never thought I would win. And then I won, and then it scared me!”
On her Instagram, Gal posted in 2015 this throwback photo of her coronation, with a caption that read:
"I must say I really don't understand how they chose me to be Miss Israel that night. 11 years ago."
Despite this, Gal still flew to Quito, Ecuador for the Miss Universe competition.
Here she is seen posing with other pageant contenders, including Miss Universe-Philippines 2004 Maricar Balagtas.
“I was very naughty, I wasn’t behaving. I’m a really good girl, but because I was afraid I’m gonna win again because I didn’t want to win the Miss Israel pageant, and then I won.
I figured, ‘Oh no, I don’t want them to choose me again!’
So, I came down late for all the rehearsals, and I wasn’t wearing the right evening gowns for breakfast.
I even remember Paula Abdul, she was one of the judges, and she was asking me a question, I was saying, ‘I’m sorry, English not so good.’
I just didn’t want to have anything to do with that.”
Going back to Israel after the pageant, Gal signed up at the Israel Defense Forces to fulfill her military duties.
She first dreamed of taking up Law and International Relations, but acting got in the way, and then life truly happened for Gal Gadot from there on out.
She may not have made in big in the pageantry field and taken home the coveted Miss Universe crown, but Gal Gadot surely made her name known the world over, in a much different way: as Wonder Woman!
