KAMI learned that Mandy Harvey is a deaf American jazz singer and a songwriter.
She used to be a Vocal Music Education major at Colorado State University yet around 2006-2007, she lost her hearing at age eighteen and decided to leave the university.
The doctors theorized that the hearing loss was the result of a genetic flaw triggered by medications used during knee surgeries.
After knowing all these, she returned to Longmont and there she took American Sign Language classes and courses in Elementary Education at a local community college.
Once she returned home Mandy decided that she would stop singing, but she did continue to play the guitar with her father.
One day Mandy and her father discovered a song titled "Come Home" by One Republic. Her father then suggested that she learn the lyrics so that they could make a home recording.
At first, she thought that it would be impossible, but she gave it her best effort. She was able to read the music and sing in key, which made her realize that she didn't have to give up on singing.
So she followed her dreams and sang without wearing her shoes so that she could feel the vibration and make use of it as her guide while singing.
She did earn a Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell with her original song "Try."
