Ever wondered what happens when a professional basketball player retires? Some of them continue being rich but others struggle to make a living.
One of the latter is Noli Banate, a center who played for the Philippine Basketball Association before.
KAMI learned about his heartbreaking but inspiring story from Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho via the GMA Public Affairs YouTube Channel.
After five years of playing in the league, Noli was forced to retire from professional basketball because none of the teams wanted to hire him.
Unfortunately, he was not able to save a big amount of money during his brief PBA career.
He then went back to Davao del Sur, sold his car and bought a jeepney.
In order to provide for his family, Noli became a jeepney driver, traveling from Magsaysay to Davao City and earning about P3,000 per week.
He also has his jeepney rented regularly for the transportation of goods which earns him P2,000 per ride.
The former PBA star has four children and only one of them was able to graduate.
However, the three worked at a young age in order to help their family.
Despite not being rich anymore, Noli still lives a happy and peaceful life with his loved ones.
